Hi, I'm Fo
This page is for you, not the grown-ups.
It tells you what Korva keeps about you.
It tells you why, and who can see it.
Our biggest promises
- No ads. Not ever.
- We never sell anything about you.
- We never use your work to sell you things.
- We never ask your real name, age, school or address.
- No hidden trackers watching what you do.
- Your work is only used for practice and lessons.
- And to show your grown-up how you're going.
What Korva keeps
Must have
Korva can't work without these.
- The nickname you picked, like "Swift Fox".
- Your answers, and which ones were right.
- When you used a hint.
- Mistakes, so you can try them again.
- Your writing, and Fo's feedback on it.
- Where you're up to in a lesson.
- When you practised, and for how long.
Your choice
You don't have to give these.
- A PIN on your profile. A grown-up sets it.
- A note at the end of practice.
- Hints from Fo. You only get one if you ask.
What Korva never keeps
- Your real name.
- Your birthday or your age.
- Your year at school.
- Your school.
- Where you live, or where you are.
- Photos, videos or your voice.
- Private things, like your health or religion.
Why we keep it
- To give you the next question.
- To mark your answers and help when you're stuck.
- To bring back questions you got wrong.
- To show your grown-up how you're going.
We never sell it. We never show you ads.
We never send you emails. You don't have an email here.
Your grown-up can see your work
Your parent or carer can see what you do on Korva.
- Your scores and how you're going.
- Your answers.
- Your writing, while we still have it.
- Fo's feedback on your work.
They can also set a PIN, and pick how hard questions are.
Nobody at your school sees anything. Korva isn't part of school.
Who else gets some of it
Korva uses four companies to help. All four are in America.
- Anthropic makes the computer brain behind Fo. When you ask for a hint, it sees the question and your answer. It reads your writing to give feedback. We never tell it your nickname or anything else about who you are, so it can't tell who wrote it. (If you write your own name in your writing, it will see that.) It doesn't learn from your work. Your grown-up can turn this off.
- Railway runs the computers Korva lives on. Everything is stored there.
- Stripe takes your grown-up's payment. It gets nothing about you.
- Postmark sends your grown-up two kinds of email. It gets nothing about you.
Fo is a computer program, not a person. Fo can be wrong. If something looks wrong, tell a grown-up.
Don't type private things. No address, phone number or secrets.
How long we keep it
- Your writing: about one day. Then the words are deleted. We keep the score and Fo's feedback.
- If your writing worries us: if something you write makes it sound like you might not be safe, a grown-up at Korva will read it to check you're okay. We keep that piece of writing for a little while, then delete it. If you ever feel unsafe, you can call Kids Helpline any time on 1800 55 1800.
- Your lesson work: about one day after you stop.
- Everything else: until your grown-up deletes it.
You're in charge too
Your grown-up said yes to Korva keeping these things. You don't sign anything. You still have a say.
- Change your nickname any time. You don't need to ask.
- See what we keep. Ask, and we'll show you simply.
- Fix something wrong. Tell us and we'll fix it.
- Delete it. Ask, and we'll delete it.
- Change your mind. You can say stop, any time. Tell your grown-up, or use the form below.
If you say no to the must-haves, Korva can't work. That's okay. Nothing bad happens to you.
We answer every request within 30 days.
Ask a question or make a complaint
Worried about your information? You can tell us.
- Use the form at korvaacademy.com.au/privacy-concern.
- You can give your name, or stay anonymous. Anonymous means nobody knows it was you.
- Or ask a grown-up to email admin@korvaacademy.com.au.
A real person reads it. We answer within 30 days.
Still not happy? A government office can help. It's called the OAIC: oaic.gov.au.
More about this: questions and complaints.
If something goes wrong
We work hard to keep your information safe.
If it ever leaks and could hurt you, we tell your grown-up.
We tell the government privacy office too.
Korva follows Australia's privacy law. It's also working to meet a new children's privacy code. That code is still a draft. We treat everyone the same way, kids and grown-ups.
